The School was formed in 2009 as School of Arts, Education & Information Science. It was reorganized under the current name, School of Arts and Information Sciences in 2012 having four constituent teaching and research departments including Library & Information Science, Music, Communication & Journalism, and Fine Arts & Performing Arts. The Dean of School, a statutory officer of the University, functions as the Head of the School. The Dean of School discharges the official functions by taking assistance of its constituent Departments having their respective Heads, and other members of the School. Besides convening School Board Meetings, the Dean convenes periodical meetings on the issues pertaining matters of academic and research interest of the Departments. Some of these issues include revision of course curriculum, matters relating admission, Research, development of new courses of study, also teacher and student grievances and welfare. The student admissions to UG programmes of study of different Departments under the school are made under the direct supervision of the Dean.
