  1. Brief Introduction of the Department :

The Department of General and Applied Geography is one of the pioneer departments in the country. It was established in 1953 with Prof. Mackim as its first Head. Faculties are sharing their research finding at national and international academic platforms and have been published in leading national and international research journals. Department offers under graduate, post graduate and Ph.D. courses. We are committed to helping our students to develop their skills, such as team work, report writing, IT skills and presentations. These skills are integral to the course and manifest themselves in the varied assessment and training methods used throughout the three years of undergraduate and two years post graduate teaching. The Department of General & Applied Geography today is a flourishing and expanding academic community committed to high standards of research & teaching in the country. Now, the department has 08 meritorious, experienced and devoted faculty members which consist of one professor and seven assistant professors. Department has been pioneer in the teaching of astronomy, cartography and applied geography since beginning. By virtue of its teaching and research, the department has been attracting students from all over country viz. Assam, West Bengal, Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Jammu & Kashmir, Maharashtra, New Delhi etc. The department has produced several academicians, scientists and administrative officers.  The department is well equipped with advanced survey instruments.

  • Department of General and Applied Geography has been sanctioned with DST-FIST (Phase I) in the year 2019-20 with an amount of Rs. 56 Lakhs.
  • Completed UGC Start-up Research Project by Dr. Pawan Kumar Sharma as Principal Investigator on Micro-level analysis of spatial variation in the level of development in western Rajasthan-A multi-dimensional approach Investigator: Sponsoring Agency: UGC Project Name: Start-up Project Status July 2014 to July 2016 Amount (Lakhs) 600000/- Submitted in Oct, 2016.

Facilities

The department is having adequate infrastructural facilities including one lecture hall, one seminar hall with overhead LCD projector, six class rooms with adequate furniture, ten chambers for teachers facilitated with computers and broad band and Wi-Fi internet connectivity. The department has one Remote Sensing & GIS Lab. re is one Computer Lab with 8 computers and reprographic machine. The department has well established toposheet map library having approximately three thousand toposheets of one inch, half inch and quarter inch and one thousand international toposheets. Moreover, the department also possesses satellite imageries, national and foreign aerial photographswhich are used in research and teaching purposes. There is one survey lab. possessing many advanced survey instruments.Besides, the department also has 3 printers and photocopiers.
