Programs Offered
The Department of Economics offers a comprehensive range of academic programs that align with the evolving needs of higher education and the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Our curriculum is designed to provide students with strong theoretical foundations, applied skills, and research orientation in the field of economics.
Undergraduate Program (NEP 2020 Aligned)
The department offers a flexible and multidisciplinary Undergraduate Program in accordance with NEP 2020, with multiple exit options:
- Undergraduate Certificate in the field of study after successful completion of Semesters I and II (as per credit requirements).
- Undergraduate Diploma after completion of Semesters III and IV.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Economics upon completion of Semesters V and VI.
- Bachelor’s Degree with Research in Economics after completing Semesters VII and VIII (with requisite credits and research components).
Postgraduate Programs
- M.A. in Economics (Two-Year Program): For students who have completed a three-year undergraduate degree.
- M.A. in Economics (One-Year Program): For students who have completed a four-year undergraduate degree with a major in Economics.
Diploma Program
- Postgraduate Diploma in Labour Studies (One-Year Program): A specialized program focusing on labour economics, industrial relations, and related policy issues.
Doctoral Program
- Ph.D. in Economics: A research-intensive program that includes a mandatory six-month coursework component, designed to train scholars in advanced economic theory, methodology, and applied research.
Proposed Program
- M.Sc. in Economics: The department plans to introduce a new M.Sc. program in Economics in the near future to cater to the growing demand for quantitatively rigorous and analytical training in economics.
