Teaching Learning Process

  • EQUILIBRIUM BETWEEN THEORY AND PRACTICAL: Teaching in the Department is organized making sure that there should be a desirable equilibrium between theory and practical, as “do and learn component”
  • MODERN TOOLS OF TEACHING: Class room teaching is supported by Modern Tools of teaching such as PowerPoint, Video Lectures etc.  Every department has been provided at least one smart classroom.
  • Department has a DTH Connection for live telecast of MHRDs TV Channels such as SWAYAM PRABHA and Gyan Darshan for telecast of academic programmes. 
  • POPULAR LECTURES: Students are encouraged to participate and attend various subjects related regular popular lectures and training virtual organized by GSI and AMD.
  • CENTRAL AGENCIES: The students are also getting knowledge through educational programmes of Central Agencies such as EDUSAT, GYAN, GURU; National Knowledge Network.

Criterion 2 :-  Teaching-Learning and Evaluation

The first department in India to offer M. Tech. in Applied Geology as a three years’ integrated course

Distinguished features

Department have well equipped laboratories for Micropaleontology, Petrology, Ore Geology and Remote Sensing for PG students/Research.

Department have a good number of tents along with all the necessary items including a bus for geological camp, tour and field work for M.Tech students.

Economic Geology and Petrology Tour of M. Tech. fourth semester is a part of the syllabus worth 12 credits.

Teaching – Learning

In the Department of Applied Geology, the highlights of Ph.D.; M. Tech., and B.Sc. teaching – learning are as follows:

The scheme of Syllabi of M. Tech has a Seminar of 02 credits in all the core courses offered to inculcate confidence among the PG students in developing PowerPoint presentation before the board of teachers involved in each Semester.

The Syllabus of II Semester in M. Tech includes a Programme of 3 weeks duration (16 credits) to impart training in the techniques of geological mapping by establishing a field camp within 100 km vicinity of Sagar where the students and faculties live in tents during this programme

Topographical surveying worth 04 credits is a unique feature of the M. Tech. Course.

Higher education among the students is promoted in the form of specific awards and cups:

Department of Applied Geology has a good computer lab for post PG/Research Scholars with net facility developed under FIST Grant.

Department have two library namely Prof. V. K. Nayak (Memorial Library) and Prof. B. Das (Library) respectively. Each library has good numbers of books, Journals and students Dissertations etc.

 

 

 

Department have well equipped laboratories for Petrology, Micropaleontology, Ore Geology and Photogeology for PG students/research. Which are renaming as follows Prof. G.N. Prof. M.V. Durge (Petrology lab), Saxena (Micropaleontology Lab), Prof. V.K. Nayak (Ore Microscopy Lab) & Prof. P.O. Alexander (Geochemistry lab), respectively.

The Department supports regional mineral based industries by giving free consultancies for the identification of minerals, rocks, building stones, identification of GEM stones.

During the field work for one month, free advises are given to local people on groundwater exploration.

We provide samples of rocks and minerals to the colleges for UG and PG students.

The Department bestows ‘Professor W. D. West Oration Award’ annually to a leading Professor/ Geoscientist who delivers lecture on current affairs in geosciences.

Lifetime Achievement award is bestowed to renowned Academicians/Geoscientist.

Lifetime Achievement award is bestowed to a retired faculty member.

The Alumni and Faculty of the department made a corpus of Rs. 5 lakhs out of which Professor W. D. West Award was initiated in the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) in 2016 annual congress.

Department in 1964 formed the Geological Society of Sagar’ for organizing academic, cultural and games activities. It was rechristened as the M. Tech. Student Society (MSS) in 1990. The Society is run by students in organizing quizzes, lectures, cultural programmes, and webinars and has a slot of two hours in the Time Table.

We have a tradition to provide all infrastructure and computation facilities with internet access to all the retired faculties.

The scheme of Syllabi of M. Tech has a Seminar of 02 credits in all the core courses offered to inculcate confidence among the PG students in developing PowerPoint presentation before the board of teachers involved in each Semester.

The Syllabus of II Semester in M. Tech includes a Programme of 3 weeks duration (14 credits) to impart training in the techniques of geological mapping by establishing a field camp within 100 km vicinity of Sagar where the students and faculties live in tents during this programme

Topographical surveying worth 04 credits is a unique feature of the M. Tech. Course.

Higher education among the students is promoted in the form of specific awards and cups:
