Population Research Centre (P.R.C.) established in the year 1999 is located in the Department of General and Applied Geography, Dr. Hari Singh Gour Vishwavidyalaya, Sagar (M.P.). PRC is funded by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India through hundred percent financial assistance in the form of grant-in-aid. PRC, Sagar is one of the 18 PRCs situated in different states in India. PRC is functioning from its new building since May, 2019. Population Research Centre proposes to install a Population Clock in Vishwavidyalaya. The Population Clock will provide real-time status of Population of India and Madhya Pradesh. Ministry of Health and Family Welfare will provide budgetary support for establishment of Population Clock.
PRC Staffs: PRC is headed by Honorary Director. Presently PRC Sagar comprises of 7 staff members. The technical staff includes one Assistant Director, two Research Investigators and two Field investigators. Supporting staff comprises of one U.D.C. and a Peon. Two Research Fellows posts are vacant.
Research Facilities: PRC Sagar is constantly making efforts to upgrade its research facilities. MoHFW provides various demographic as well as health and family welfare related publications. PRC also receives several publications such as newsletters, data sheets, research briefs and research reports on complimentary basis.
Ministry has provided non-recurring grant for purchase of office equipments and computers in the financial year 2021-22. Out of this grant two desktop computers, two laptops, one multi-function copier machine and two printers have been procured. PRC will be equipped with advanced IT enabled data collection and data management techniques and would use latest online data capturing technology through CAPI tablets. Software like SPSS, CensusInfo, MSOffice, CSPro and Epi-Info is being used for the statistical analysis of the data and for graphics and word processing. PRC is equipped with an uninterrupted power supply (UPS) device. The centre has FTTH fiber broadband internet facility. It also has Xerox machine, typewriter, LCD Projector, Digital Camera.
PRC, Sagar has completed 170 research studies including monitoring of programme implementation plan (PIP) under National Health Mission since inception.
PRC library: PRC has its own library. It has more than one thousand three hundred fifty books/ journals/ reports in its stock. The central library of the university also procures books on research methodology, statistics, demography & health subjects suggested by PRC. The PRC library has books on demography, population studies, research methodology, statistics, tribal demography and women’s issues. Data sets from Census, National Sample Survey Organization (NSSO), National Family Health Survey (NFHS), District Level Household Survey (DLHS) and Sample Registration System (SRS) are also procured by PRC and extensively used for research purposes.
Functions of PRC: Major functions of PRC include conducting research studies in the field of public health and family welfare, socio-economic and demographic aspects and reproductive health. Faculty is also involved in carrying-out independent research studies in collaboration with other departments and institutions. Faculty and Research Staffs participate in academic workshops. PRC has been conducting evaluation studies in areas of Health Management Information System (HMIS), Family Planning, Health and Wellness Centre and LaQshya implementation. Secondary data analysis of Demographic and Health Survey (DHS), NFHS, NSS, SRS, HMIS and census data is also undertaken. PRC also disseminates research findings and observations based on their studies, among the state as well as district authorities.
Population Research Centre will also establish Census Data Work Station in collaboration with Registrar General of India and Census Commissioner.
