We feel privileged to inform that Dr. Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya, Sagar, (M.P.) was established in the year 1946 as the first University in the state through philanthropic efforts of Dr. Harisingh Gour - an eminent lawyer, educationist, and social thinker. It was accorded a Central University status on 15.01.2009 by an Act of the Parliament. The Vishwavidyalaya has been consistently improving in academic excellence, quality infrastructure, and manpower for imparting quality education, and also for conducting cutting- edge research. In its 79 years of journey, it has furthered the cause of higher education in the Bundelkhand region of Central India. The Vishwavidyalaya has been accredited with "A+" Grade in its 4 th cycle of accreditation by NAAC, Bangalore and it is striving hard to gain international recognition. Our Campus is located beautifully on a Hill Top and we have a Valley Campus also with a total area of 1312.89 Acres.
We have 38 Departments and Institute of Engineering and Technology. Students are getting placed through a strong Placement Cell and Alumni Cell. It is supported by Professional Course like M.B.A. with specialisation in Marketing, Finance, HRM, Tourism, Health Care and Hospital Management and Undergraduate Courses like B.B.A. (Hons.) and Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering Technology. There are Professional Courses like B.Pharma., M.Pharma., Applied Geology, Forensic Science, Yogic Science etc. Community College is offering various Certificate Courses. Institute of Distance Education is offering Diploma in various Professional streams. Our Education is embedded deep with Indian Ethics and Indigenous Knowledge. We have students from various states with different economic background.
There are colleges in Districts like Sagar, Damoh, Chhindwara and Chhatarpur affiliated to us. The UGC-MMTTC conducts Orientation and Refresher Courses. I request the teachers, staff and all stakeholders to work together for taking the University to greater heights.
