Brief Introduction of the Department:
Department of Physical Education was established by Dr. Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya, Sagar (M.P.) in the year 1950. The Physical Education department caters to the Sports needs of students from all University Teaching Departments’ and affiliated colleges of the University. The University striving for academic excellence, and at the same time sponsoring varieties of activities that would contribute to the wholesome development of personality and promote health among students. Sports and Games are one such area promoted by the University with an intention of ensuring Physical, Mental and Emotional Health of the Student Community. The Department is organising and conducting the sports activities on the basis of guidelines provided by the ASSOCIATION OF INDIAN UNIVERSITIES (A.I.U).
Vision:
The Department of Physical Education aims at the well-being of the student to encourage mass participation in Games & Sports for overall personality development and to explore their talents for achieving national and international level sports performance. So that the University reaches its highest glory.
Objectives:
- To place the University among the best sporting universities in India.
- To enhance the image and prestige of the University through sporting activities.
- To Encourage Mass Participation in Games & Sports for overall personality development.
- To promote students’ sports participation and to create awareness about the benefits of Physical Education & Sports and to spread Sports Culture among students.
- To provide systematic coaching programme by involving qualified & competent personnel to groom University teams & sports talent.
- To generate good players through a harmonious blend of ancient and modern techniques and to search sports talent at the University level and to groom them as better performers.
- To enhance our reputation as a world class Physical Education Department which is recognized for its excellence and achievements, and attracts the best students.
- To project the potentials of the University by organizing Intercollegiate and national level University tournaments.
- To develop adequate and standard sports infrastructure facilities like Playing Fields, Gymnasium, Swimming Pool, Track & Field, and procure quality equipment.
- To undertake and promote research in Physical Education and Sports.
- To involve alumni & other agencies to contribute financially to the development of Sports.
Sports culture
- The University has laid great emphasis on sports and games. The university earmarked the area for sports activities within the University campus with the sole motive of promoting sports culture, health and well-being.
- The department has outdoor and indoor sports facilities in the form of large fields and indoor halls for playing different games and separate gyms for boys and girls of the University.
- The department provides sports kits, track-suit and blazer to the players participating in different tournaments.
- The department extends the facilities for playing and organizing tournaments to the other sports bodies of the town
- The department regularly hosts tournaments of different levels i.e. Inter-University, Inter-College, Inter-School etc.
Physical Education Programme outcomes:
- The graduates of Physical Education have a wide range of opportunity in different fields. After completing the graduation, the Post Graduation and Ph.Ds are qualified to be appointed as Teachers and Sports officer in Universities, Colleges and Physical Education teachers in Schools.
- Other than these academic opportunities they will also be qualified for appointment as District Sports Officer / Regional sports officer and other administrative posts in sports department in Central and State Government undertakings.
- These students are also eligible to join different Forces, for examples, Army, Police, B.S.F etc.
- They are also eligible to undertake the higher studies i.e. Diploma in Coaching, M.P.Ed., Ph.D and D.Lit. in the field of Physical Education and Sports Sciences.
- Pass out students can also become health / fitness experts in health clubs and hospitality industry and they can start their own health clubs.
Facilities
The University is equipped with outdoor and indoor games activities and looking forward for upcoming facilities in the form of a Dr. Hari Singh Gour Stadium which is under construction and likely to be completed by the year. A present we are hosting and participating in the following games:-
